The single-action pedal harp provided a surrogate for an imagined ancient Celtic form in a portrayal of the Ossian mythos on the theatre stage in London toward the end of the 18th century. It was paired with the Irish union bagpipes. This blog post discusses that the relationship in both tangible and romanticized regards.
